Etiquette and the people you don't want to meet on the MRT

Other than EDSA, the Metro Rail Transit – 3 (MRT) is the next busiest transport system in the Philippines. Nearly half a million people use the MRT daily and with the trains almost full almost every hour of the day, the chances of meeting a strange person is extremely high.
Here are some examples of people you don’t want to meet in any of the crowded trains in Metro Manila:

The Crazed Addict – For whatever reason, this is the person you’d most hate to be riding with in a train. The crazy addict would tend to mumble or talk a lot of nonsense and even argue about anyone he thinks is sneering at him. The hard part is when this type of person suddenly becomes physically violent.

The Preacher – Buses are no longer the domain of religious fanatics who preach the Bible to passengers. These types of persons are still rarely seen in metro trains. Sadly, even the loud sound of the train traveling on metal tracks isn’t enough to drown out the sound of these people who scream at the top of their voice in order to let everyone in the train cab hear the Word of God.

The Glutton – There are reasons why eating is prohibited in trains and they’re almost always related to trash and also the odor of food in a crowded, air conditioned train. Even in small amounts, it’s not ethical to eat inside trains. If everyone does it, imagine the leftovers, the trash, and the smell of the train.

The Talker – People using mobile phones tend to speak louder than normal, which is acceptable if they’re in wide open spaces. But think about what other passengers in a train would be thinking when they hear you speak loudly about your life story to someone else on the other line. While other people wouldn’t mind, it’s still annoying for others. Now, imagine a vulgar passenger spewing profanities at someone on the phone. Now that would be really annoying.

The Smooch -- It’s okay for couples to show how much they’re in love by giving a smack or two but what if it becomes too much that it’s no longer a tender kiss but a full-blown make out session? Yes, these couples can say they’re just being in love but we’re still in a country where the most often comment in seeing such people is “get a room.” But what if the make out session is between two guys?

The Smelly – Passengers with bad odor is fairly common in train rides, especially during rush hour in the morning and late afternoon. Due the Philippines’ constant humidity, the odor of tired, sweaty people can become overpowering. Add to the problem of crowding and the absence of air conditioning, people could literally lose consciousness when the odor becomes too much.

The Bully – There are people who think they require more space inside the train than everyone else so they push others aside in order to get more space. They complain about feeling suffocated and would let everyone hear it. There is no reasoning with these people and even if someone tries to tell them to get off the train and take a cab (which is actually the best recourse for these bullies), those who intervene would only get a dose of screams and curses.

Riding the MRT will always be a challenge especially in a city where everyone would want to have a faster and relatively safer way of traveling along EDSA. Needless to say, people must still practice some etiquette if they want to remain satisfied in taking one of the busiest modes of transport in Metro Manila.

Follow the basic guidelines in the MRT – This means no eating, no smoking, no pushing and definitely no bringing of prohibited items such as drugs, guns, and knives in trains. Also do not ride when under the influence of alcohol. While most drunk people forget this, persons who see someone intoxicated are advised to take it to guards in every station.

Give way to others – There’s a reason why certain areas in a train cab do not have seats; these are reserved for disabled people on wheelchairs. There are also areas reserved for the elderly, pregnant women, and other types of disabled people. It does not matter if you’re tired, these people are in more sensitive situations than you are so give way.

Respect authority and facility – People do get angry when taking the MRT especially when their items have to be checked. No matter how insignificant the security checkpoints are when entering train stations, passengers have to accept this fact. People also have to avoid damaging equipment and facilities inside the MRT in many cases, the automatic door mechanisms get damaged when the doors do not operate when people forcibly open them.

Respect others – No matter how despicable others are, it’s still best to be nice. A long day at work is stressful. Don’t add anymore to your stress.

How to go to Alabang.....the long way

Alabang, Muntinlupa is one place to go shopping to. Malls like Festival Mall, Alabang Town Center, and Metropolis Star Alabang are shopper's haven. Ayala Alabang Village is also located there. And for those who want to go to Laguna via bus but don't want to spare some time going to the bus terminals, buses pass by Alabang and they board Laguna-bound passengers.

Almost all of us know how to get there. Just ride a couple of buses, then you're there. But for those adventurous, like me, there's an alternative way to go there. Let's say you're coming from school, say from Adamson University. Of course, being an adventurous person, you would want to have extraordinary experiences. And I will show you now how to get that adventure.

Number One: Ride a jeepney to Divisoria
Yes, Divisoria would be involved here, as a terminal is located here. All over Manila, there are jeepneys that has a route to Divisoria. Just hitch a ride in a Divi-bound jeep, wait for it to arrive at Divisoria, then go out.

Number Two: Walk up to the PNR Terminal
Alabang is the last station of the PNR Metro Commuter Line. If you can see this building,

then that's the PNR Tutuban Terminal. Just walk to that building.

Step Three: Buy a ticket
Of course, if you would ride a train, you need a ticket. Purchasing your ticket is very easy. At the entrance of the main building, the ticket booth is there. You can;t enter the station without a ticket. The ticket is only Php20. So cheap, right?

Step Four: Wait for the commuter train
If you arrive at the terminal early for the next trip, just wait patiently. You can stroll inside the station. There are past pictures of the PNR displayed in there. There is also a TV set in the waiting booth. If you get hungry, the PNR canteen is open for your needs. The trip interval is usually 1 hour for non-peak hours while 30 minutes for peak hours. Trips usually depart 5 minutes after the hour, example at 1:05, while 35 minutes after the hour when peak.

Step Five: Board the train
A signal will be given when it is boarding time. Just walk to the platform and board the train.

Step Six: Wait for the train to arrive at Alabang station
The trip usually lasts for one hour. While on the train, you can see the life beside the tracks. You can see miniature basketball courts, trolleys plying the tracks, children playing in the tracks. In some instances, you can experience rocks thrown onto the train. You can also talk to some of the passengers, as most of them are sociable.

Step Seven: Explore Alabang
After boarding out of the train station, which is located behind Metropolis Starmall Alabang, you can now start exploring the place. There are jeepneys that can take you to Alabang Town Center and Festival Mall.

So there you go, the adventurous and long way to go to Alabang. Adios!

How to kill cockroaches >:)

Cockroaches, cockroaches, cockroaches.... I know some of you are scared of these creatures. Some of you are scared because of their flying ability. Its appearance is also scary for some. Some also hate this lad because it's dirty.

For today, I'll give you some tips on how to kill your hated cockroaches. These tips are very easy to make.

-STEP ON IT
Hell yeah, this is the most common and easiest step to kill these lads! When you see a cockroach crawling, even though you're scared to be near it, step on it quickly. It will die in an instant. I repeat, in an instant. But just be mindful on the remains. And its blood, too.

-USE INSECT REPELLENT SPRAYS
It might be quite expensive to buy sprays just to kill them, but I assure you that your money will be well spent. With the spray in your hand, when a cockroach appears, aim the spray on it, and spray away! It might still move, but it's dizzy at that moment. Just wait for it to die.

-HIT IT WITH ANYTHING HARD
If you really curse this thing and you want them dead, why not hit them? I sometimes uses the handle of the broom to kill them. If a broom is not available, use anything that is hard. Just aim your weapon on them, and quickly hit them. Of course, it will die in an instant.

-CRUSH THEIR EGGS
If you know where they lay their eggs, then proceed to that place. If you can see their eggs, don't hesitate to hit it. It will break in an instant. The egg is so fragile.

-MAKE A COCKROACH JUICE
If you're up for a dare, or you're setting challenges for a dare, why not make a cockroach juice? It's very simple to make this. Just put live cockroaches in a blender, add water, and blend it. Voila, you have yourself a cockroach juice. Bon Appetit.

(disclamer: the last step is just a mere imagination of the writer. it's up to you if you'll follow it)

Here you go, guys. Steps on how to kill them. Enjoy killing!

Hi. Hello.

Oh, I haven't introduced myself. As you can see on the picture above, I like trains. And enough said..............oh no, just kidding. Of course, trains are not my only interest. There are so many, like basketball, uhm, infra projects, uhm, football (a little bit), uhm, gaming, and still so many things.

Of course, I won't write not just train stuffs. As the blog title implies, I would write random things. Not the boring ones, of course. Nobody wants to read boring posts, right? This blog is somewhat a resurrection of my writing hobby because I started this a year ago and, after three posts, I abandoned this. So, I hope that I could continue my writing hobby.

Oh well, this is just a simple introduction of myself. Adios.

A girl who made my life (insert adjective here)

Phew! Kinalawang na ung blog ko! O well, ngayon updated na ulit sya. At may ikukwento pa ko! Hehe.

Saka may sarili kayong tropa.) Ayun, kwentuhan sa mga yon. Then, nilapitan ko ung dati kong CAT Officer sa Charlie Company. Ano nga bang posisyon nya? Ah..Flight Leader pa sya nun. Ayun, kwentuhan ulit. Sa kanya ko nalaman nun na bawal pala hawakan ng hindi officer ung uniform nilang mga officer. Hanep ah. Habang nag-uusap kami, may isang classmate nya ang biglang sumigaw, "YIHEE!!". Kabwiset sya. Tuloy-tuloy ung asaran hanggang sa jeep. Gumatong pa ung iba. Kabwiset! So ayun, bumaba na din ako. Hindi ko na alam kung ano nangyare pagka-baba ko. Pagka-uwi ko, ayun. Wala naman masyado nangyari. Kinabukasan kasi, exam ko noon sa Ateneo. When I came to Ateneo the following day, September 19, 2009, syempre, nag-exam na ako. Malamang. After my exam, sa hindi ko malamang dahilan, hinahanap ko siya. Pagkatapos ng pangyayaring yun, ayun na. And the rest is history. :P

Grabe, ngayon ko lang ito naisipang i-post. HAHA.

Love you Ruby! <3
